The Old Pirate's Parrot

BeowulfAnthony E
1 Review

The Old Pirate had a hook

He had a patch over his eye

And upon his shoulder

Stood a Parrot under the blue, blue sky

The Old Pirate yelled out orders

To all of his ship’s crew

The Parrot would repeat them

The crew knew what to do

The next day the Old Pirate stayed in bed

He was feeling kind of sick

Who would lead the crew

To change the sails and mop the deck?

The Parrot went to the Old Pirate’s window

And let out a loud yell

He sounded just like the Old Pirate

None of the crew could tell

The Parrot ordered the crew to go to the kitchen

And to make oatmeal raisin cookies all day

Did you know that Parrots love raisins

The warm cookies were put on a tray

The Parrot forgot to tell them to mop the deck

Or to set the sails for the ocean’s crossing

The winds started blowing faster

The Pirate Ship started turning and tossing

Then the crew heard another order

Coming from the Old Pirate’s room

It was the Parrot again and now

He wanted them to bake raisin macaroons

The crew went to the kitchen and rolled out the dough

They baked macaroons and put them on a tray

The raisin loving Parrot did not see the huge storm

This huge storm was coming their way

The crew baked and baked

The macaroons had extra raisins inside

The storm struck the Pirate ship

The ship was turned on its side

The Old Pirate woke up, he saw all the water

The crew thought they would drown

He saw the Parrot eating cookies

The Old Pirate let out a sound

He yelled at the Parrot for not giving orders

For not setting the sails all day

For not leading the crew

And not doing it the Old Pirate’s way

The Parrot was sad and flew away

With a bag of goodies in its beak

The Pirate ship was sinking fast

And the sides started to leak

And then through the stormy sky

Came 20 parrots flying over the bay

They came to save the Pirate Ship

The Old Pirate’s Parrot led the way

The parrots grabbed the ship’s sails with their beaks

They lifted the Pirate Ship like it was new

The water rushed out from the deck

Saving the Old Pirate and his crew

The sun came out and all was right

All of them partied below the mast

The crew wondered about the Old Pirate’s Parrot

How did he find so many Parrots so fast?

The Old Pirate asked the hero Parrot a question

How did you get the Parrots to help so soon?

The Parrot said, “That was easy”

I promised them cookies and macaroons
