The Unknown Poet

The Unknown Poet

By Mitzi Danielson-Kaslik - 1 Review

I look upon your body

And wonder where your soul

Has gone, is it wandering in

The place that’s on from here,

The place I do not know, the

Place I can only write about

I wonder who you were in

The life that you once lived,

Did you love? Were you loved?

When you were in this world,

Did they even know your name

Before planting you among the

White lilies which grow in this

Silent place?

I suppose I do not need to

Look far to know if you were

Loved, for there is no name

Upon the stone, no date, nor

Place of birth, only this:

“The Unknown Poet”,

I wonder if they knew you,

Even if they didn’t know your

Name, I wonder if they sought

To tame your imagination and

Your mind before you came to

The next place, the place on from

This world.

If they did not, I shall, I have all

The time in the world and no

Better way to spend it,

So, give me your poetry, everything

You ever wrote and I shall read it

All, then, only then, shall I know you

And even if I never know your name,

I shall still know you all the same.
