On a cold and windy day
I decided to climb
A very challenging mountain wall
Chilling slopes of hanging glacier
Forbidding, horrendous gullies
Mighty rock buttresses
And ferocious flutings
So I began to climb
The largest buttress
One step after another
With neither tent, nor oxygen
Only ice axes and crampons
To keep me from falling
Finally, after a strenuous climb
I reached the top of the buttress
Beyond that, was a white world
A chilling world of snow and ice
By then it was getting darker
I dug a snow hole
A shelter for the night
In the hole I slept
Like a badger or a fox
Like a rabbit or a squirrel
The next day, I began to climb
Up a mighty spur
Now the climb was getting steeper
With sheer vertical sections
And giant gullies on either side
It went on and on and on
But I never gave up
I never turned back
I battled against the heights
Until it began to get dark
I dug another snow hole
A shelter for the night
In the hole I slept
Like a badger or a fox
Like a rabbit or a squirrel
The next day I continued
To climb the mighty spur
I felt like a spider
Climbing up a gigantic wall
Higher into the unknown
There wasn’t a single moment
When I didn’t feel afraid
And yet it was the fear
That drove me on and on
Until it began to get dark
I dug another snow hole
A shelter for the night
In that hole I slept
Like a badger or a fox
Like a rabbit or a squirrel
The next day I continued
To climb the immense mountain
I felt like an ant
Minute compared to the snow world
Then finally I reached it
The top of the mighty spur
But I was not at the summit
There was a ridge to climb
So I set off up the ridge
Until I reached a lower summit
Not far from the final summit
The final ridge was treacherous
With horrifying cliffs on either side
I summoned up all my courage
And overcame all the challenges
Until finally, I was there
On top of the world
At the summit of Mount Everest
