valentines day & me

Valentine's Day
and me
go together
like the Grinch and Christmas.
translation: we don't.
while there have been good versions
of this holiday -
like the year you
childishly
beautifully
slowly fell in love with me -
there have been far too many
lonely desolate silent grey
renditions of this day
to forget.
too many times
of the grey cloud over my head
as i watched
the pink red love rain down
on the happy couples.
this year,
i don't want chocolate.
i don't want any galentines celebration.
i don't care for the stuffed animals
or the chalky hearts
or any of it.
i just want you.
...
but i can't have you.
so i will traverse this day
this ridiculous sentiment-sprinkled monday
alone.
