Thomas Ray I just reread it and it made me tear up. I'm not entirely sure why my second reaction was so extreme, but I must say again, this is really good.

Wars are never good. I feel it could use some rewording, but otherwise, it's good!

Optimism101 "asking' reason they were killed for" is one. I feel it's a little convoluted. "To learn lesson from their suffering" is another. I feel like with some edits and working, maybe a second draft, it would be amazing!
