CHAPTER 4

The surroundings were truly dark and not a single soul roamed around town at this point in time.

Cyne put down his knife and took a step back.

“What do you want from me?”

The giant man then pointed at Cyne and spoke in a serious tone.

“I want you to join my guild.”

Cyne greatly considered the offer and immediately asked for more details.

“How many members are there?”

The man smiled as he noticed Cyne’s interest.

“If I counted you, that would make two.”

Cyne’s jaw dropped at what the man just said.

(Seriously! This guy has to be crazy!)

Cyne thought to himself.

“And here I thought I finally attracted the attention of a minor guild.”

Cyne laughed at his own words, the man joined in as well as if to humor Cyne.

But a weird thought just popped into Cyne’s head. The man’s aura is not that of your ordinary run of the mill adventurer, no, it was something else, something else that felt familiar.

Cyne recognized that aura, it was something he had felt everytime he faced off against a monster of such strength.

This man has the aura of death around him!

Cyne then asked.

“What are your adventurer details?”

The man grinned and spoke with his manly voice.

“The name is Alph! Silver ranked adventurer and the guild master of the phoenix guild!”

Cyne’s eyes widened

(A silver rank with a guild master license!?)

(This man probably came from a rich family with financial backing.)

Then the man spoke proudly

“So how about it! Want to become the vice-master and the 2nd member of the phoenix guild!?”

Cyne felt goosebumps with every word the man spoke.

(He possessed very high charisma, I’ll give him that!”)

But Cyne felt threatened with the ominous aura that is oozing out of the man.

Cyne then spoke.

“I’ll join your guild.”

The man smiled

“Well the-”

Cyne interrupted the man’s words

“If you could beat me in a duel tomorrow!”

The man then reached out his hand and grinned at Cyne.

“Tomorrow it is!”

Cyne shook the man’s hand in agreement.

“Tomorrow at noon, we will meet at the A.U building, okay?”

The man nodded at Cyne’s words and went back into the darkness of the town’s alley.

“What a truly odd guy.”

Cyne went back up into the room and laid down on the bed next to the drunken Emma sleeping away under the sheets.

He then put on the ring once more, mesmerized by its appearance and its hidden power.

“A rare drop, a rank up and now a guild offer! This must be a blessing from God!”

Cyne hid his excitement for tomorrow’s duel and quietly went to sleep.

********

Morning came and once the sunlight touched his face, Cyne immediately awoke.

He tossed to his left and his face just inches away from Emma’s.

“Oh yeah I forgot, she didn’t go home last night.”

Cyne mumbled under his breath as he gently tapped Emma’s nose.

“Wake up. Wake up. Wake up.”

Emma groaned and waved her hand on Cyne’s face.

“I don’t want to go up yet.”

He started getting irritated at the lazy Emma hogging the entire bed now that he was awake.

He pulled her hair.

“Owww, it hurts!”

She just wouldn’t budge.

“You do have a job at the A.U you know!”

As Cyne muttered those words, Emma immediately sprung into action.

“I gotta get to work! I gotta get to work!”

She quickly fixed herself and bolted towards the door.

She waved goodbye and said

“Thanks for taking care of me!”

And ran off to work.

Cyne let out a huge sigh and got ready to go down.

Cyne found the owner of the tavern already starting to open up for another day of work, he nodded at the owner and left for the A.U building to prepare for the duel.
