CHAPTER 5

The A.U building was packed with adventurers early in the morning which was very unusual. Normally there might be a few adventures here and there in the morning but not to this magnitude.

Cyne tried to get in, but there were just too many people gathered.

He then immediately spotted one of the A.U workers keeping the crowd in check, it was Emma!

Cyne went towards her and tapped her in the back.

“Sir, please go back in line, I told you this many-”

She expected to see an adventurer who tried to cut in line but it was Cyne instead.

“Hey, umm do you mind telling me what the hell is going on here?”

Emma crossed her arms.

“Some big shot noble from the capital issued a quest for an expedition on a recently discovered tomb near the Graywall mountains.”

Cyne let out a small chuckle at her rant and asked her.

“Good pay?”

Emma let out a sigh.

“...Great pay.”

So that’s why a lot of adventurers are gathered here, it's just about the money. Though a quest like this is rare, no amount of money is worth it to risk your life for.

Cyne asked another question.

“How many adventurers are to be hired?”

“100 adventurers, bronze rank or higher.”

That's as large as a membership of a top minor guild.

“If this requires at least 100 adventurers then that must mean the risk is higher than normal, right?”

Emma nodded and placed a hand in Cyne’s shoulder.

“Please don’t go, it’s too dangerous for you!’

Cyne smiled.

“I know, I know, I’m not that stupid.”

Emma sighed in relief.

“Good…. Anyway I got work to do. See you around!”

Emma smiled and walked away.

As Cyne turned around, he bumped into an adventurer carrying a big iron mace.

Oof!

“Sorry about that!”

The adventurer bowed his head and apologized.

Cyne shook his head

“No,no,no it’s my fault for bumping into you.”

The adventurer raised his head and took out his hand.

“My name is Drake.”

“Cyne”

The two shook hands.

“By any chance, are you participating in this quest?”

Cyne asked Drake

Drake nodded

“Yeah, I heard the pay is huge and we get to keep any items found in the tomb.”

“How about you Cyne, are you joining?’

Cyne shook his head.

“Nah, the risk is just too high for me as a silver rank.”

“Well anyway, I gotta go! I might not get a spot if I stayed here longer.”

Drake waved goodbye and disappeared in the crowd.

“Hope that guy makes it out alive.”

******

The sun shone brightly as noon arrived.

Cyne was sitting outside the A.U building, waiting for Alph to arrive.

Suddenly someone tapped Cyne in the shoulder.

Cyne looked up to see the giant man smiling at him.

“You ready Mr. Cyne?”

Cyne grinned

“Ready as I’ll ever be!’

The two started walking out of town to find a place where they wouldn’t attract much attention.

They walked in complete silence as neither strook a conversation.

Cyne then attempted to strike a conversation with the giant.

“So… Alph, what’s your adventurer class?”

Alph let out a sigh of relief.

(Glad that he was the first to say something, I have no idea what to say to him.)

“I’m a tank.”

Cyne’s jaw dropped in shock at what he just heard.

“T-Tank?”

Alph turned around.

“Yeah….. Anyway, are you alright?”

Cyne quickly locked his jaw back into place.

“Yes, yes, yes! I’m fine.”

Tanks possess a huge amount of durability and strength, but in return they don’t have much agility, so dodging attacks are out of the question.

Even the best tanker, the #8 ranked adventurer, Nieliam, admitted himself that he didn’t have the confidence to last a 1v1 confrontation against anyone that is atleast a top diamond ranked adventurer.

(Alph doesn’t look like a man who is ignorant of his limitations, but why did he accept my challenge?)

Cyne was thrust into confusion.

Suddenly Alph stopped walking.

“This should be a good amount of distance.”

The pair stopped a short distance just outside the town’s walls.

Cyne moved forward a few meters.

“This should be just about right.”

Alph smiled and nodded.

“Mr. Cyne, you should throw your knife in the air and the moment it lands it would signal the start of our duel.”

Cyne took out his knife and looked at Alph.

(He really is going through with this! If he wanted to back out I would have understood, he is at a disadvantage of course!)

But then….

The aura of death that oozed out of the giant last night, began to show again, only this time, it was way stronger.

Gasp!

What the hell is this feeling!?

(Why does it feel like i'm being choked?)

Cyne glanced at his knife one more time and looked back at Alph.

“Sorry for the wait, I’ll now begin.”

With all his strength Cyne tossed the knife in the air.

Woosh

Woosh

Woosh

The blade spun downward and landed blade first in the middle of the two men.

The duel has now begun…..
