CHAPTER 16

“I am so sorry!”

Liz got down on her knees inside the caravan.

“We failed to meet up with you sir!”

Lance maintained a certain coldness around him as he spoke.

“It’s fine, the problem has been dealt with anyway.”

Liz raised an eyebrow.

“What do you mean by that? What were you going to ask us to do?”

Lance remained focus on the road

“I was going to ask your party to keep watch and investigate the area around Toph.”

“Why is that?”

“Bandits recently stole from Mr. Lee, Toph’s resident master blacksmith.”

Cyne butted in the conversation.

“Why did you hire adventurers to do that!? Couldn’t the town guard do that job?”

Lance seemed irritated at the amount of questions being thrown at him.

“That would be the case but Toph doesn’t have a town guard. They were all killed during the robbery”

In unison everyone's mouths dropped.

What!

Lance continued to explain.

“The bandit snuck in through the town gates disguised as a merchant, and when night fell they robbed the smithery. Some bandits were discovered and fighting broke out in the streets. The town guards were winning until the bandit leader came and slaughtered all 30 of them.”

Cyne gulped.

(That man killed 30 town guards by himself!?)

Then Lance looked at Cyne who seemed uneasy.

“That's why Mr. Cyne, I’m interested in how you killed him.”

Kezia couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

(Cyne!? He killed that man?)

Alph patted his vice-master on the back.

“Well done Cyne!”

Cyne couldn’t breathe because of the pain each pat on the back gave him.

Cyne looked at Lance who was still waiting for an answer.

“I have an item that can double the wearer's skill effect or something like that.”

Lance looked curious.

“May I see it?”

Cyne handed him the crystal ring.

Lance’s eyes widened at the sight of the ring.

“How the hell did you get this!?”

Everyone seemed confused at what he was saying, well except Alph.

“This ring doesn’t just double your skill effects it also breaks spell limits!”

Liz and Kezia looked at each other with fear and amazement.

For magic reliant classes like Mage and Healer, their spells have limits to them. A top tier fire spell like inferno could easily engulf the capital in a raging fire in mere seconds but with the ring who knows how large the affected area could be.

Lance continued.

“But that’s not all there is to this ring. It also grows along with its wearer, meaning the stronger you become the more powerful the rings effect would be. Who knows? Maybe there are hidden effects too.”

Then Lance grinned.

“That’s why the name of this ring….. Is-”

Alph interrupted.

“Support….”

Lance seemed startled by Alph’s knowledge.

“How did you know?”

Asked Lance.

“I studied a lot when I was a kid, and that ring contains the essence of the god of growth, Sentian.”

Cyne couldn’t believe it.

“What!? Then what the hell was it doing in the hands of a goblin mage!?”

Lance was thrusted into more disbelief.

“You found it on a goblin mage!?”

“Yeah, what the hell is a ring like that doing on a low tier monster.”

Liz and Kezia were confused with the entire situation.

Alph spoke up.

“When we fought, I noticed you put on that ring. I was prepared to lose but it turned out you didn’t know the full extent of the ring’s power.”

Alph chuckled.

Cyne’s face was very gloomy

“If I knew sooner…”

Lance turned back and looked at Cyne one last time before he stayed silent for the rest of the trip.

“Mr. Cyne, If you would please. I want you to get stronger and learn as many skills as possible in two months.”

Cyne looked confused.

“And why is that?”

Lance grinned

“I want to hire you for a quest.”
