once upon a lovely lie,
a promise, although sweet
now lies in ash and rubble
broken, crumbled at my feet

swirling colors now gone gray
"stay strong, speak up," you said
"until the sky comes crashing down,"
yet what happened when it did?

pieces plummet, life alight
now the sky is crashing down
all around, a world of flames,
and you're nowhere to be found

shards of heart, beyond repair
tears threatening to spill
giving in, i realize,
you only said until
