"That is the cutest dog. Ever." My friend sighed happily, clasping her hands together. I rolled my eyes and sighed.
He was homeless, with a cart full of old stuff. Dirty socks, plastic bags, thread-bare clothes...all worn out and half-torn apart. The man himself was sitting by the tree, playing with a chihuahua. The dog yipped, settling into the man's dirty arms. He chuckled and put the dog back into a broken cage.
My class tried to not stare. Nobody said anything. We just minded our own business.
Turns out he was a soldier, strong and brave. This man put his life on the line to protect ours. He went to Korea to fight the war. When he came back, barely alive from his hard battles, he found...nothing awaiting him. Family, friends, home...gone.
A soldier to return, only to find nothing.
Author Notes: True story. How unfair! Out of anybody here, he should deserve so much better.
