I really liked this story. Your symbolism in this is absolutely beautiful and I'd love to take the time to explore it. Something about when you said "A floor lamp stood behind us like a sentry on guard" really caught my attention, as well as the pigeon description at the end and how Griffin was against a lamp post when the main character saw him. The intriguing beginnings of a tale of forgiveness- or, not to forgive. You're a great writer. Loved how it hints to the morality of war and how it affects the people involved, too. Good stuff.
I enjoyed this story. The apt references to the lockdown were apt - Kirsty's job as a carer and the health risks that brought, and the future viability of her husband's business in limbo. But this was essentially a ghost story, and the build-up to her seeing the apparition was done skilfully. And I liked the fact that you left what she had seen open to interpretation. For me, what joined her in the car, near to where the accident occurred, was the young man who had died.
This is a great story! You're very talented. I could really feel Jack's guilt when you told me about it. It's sad how people can manage to find ways to tie horrible incidents back to them and claim the incident as their fault. I hope you'll continue writing because you're a natural. Great job!
This story starts well, drawing the reader into the action. And there is also an excellent sense of place - although I did feel that some of the later descriptions were arbitrary and didn't add to the story. However, not only did I enjoy it, I learnt something. I had no idea that deafness was ever considered an unacceptable disability in the UK, which is quite horrifying.
This was a pretty good story. Kinda strange for an American to read something like this being that the U.K has the passenger side on the left, and (from reading this) when you try get through an experience that was unsettling, you pour wine, where us Americans would crack open a cold beer.
The imagery was a new experience for me and that was awesome.
I wish that you had more interaction with or description of the ghost as to that it seems that it sort of just came and went with no reason to be in the vehicle. I know it was an accident that happened and the ghost had no reason to bring fear or vengeance towards people, but it seemed so bare and minimal with the ghost.
Overall though, great.
